Omega Aquatics, Inc. is proud to support S.T.A.R.S. InternationalOmega Aquatics, Inc. is proud to support S.T.A.R.S. International (Scuba Training At-Risk Students). This program was modeled after two years of field-tested pilot programs in the greater Chicago, Illinois area in 2005 and 2006. S.T.A.R.S. International is focused solely on at-risk youth (ages 13-17) with the goal to provide a positive diversionary activity incorporating scuba diving which reinforces and supports local academic achievement and career development. Candidates must be predetermined to exude traits qualifying them as "at-risk" teens and be nominated by local or civic authority figure.S.T.A.R.S. International encompasses an eighteen month curriculum spanning two academic years. The first 12 months of the program target development of the candidate's diving skills and interests, whereas the subsequent 6 months leverage participant's confidence and leadership skills to assist development of new candidates. The Scuba certifications attainable through this program are enhanced courses designed by Scuba Diving International (SDI). SDI is the world's largest Technical (TDI) and Recreational diving organization (SDI). The SDI system of diver education is based upon progressive training that introduces skills, safety related information, and local environmental knowledge in steps ranging from entry level through Scuba Instructor. The S.T.A.R.S. International curriculum encompasses studies from entry level through SDI Rescue Diver, and it includes certification in 6 diving specialties (Search & Recovery, SeaSigns Underwater communications, Underwater Photography, Navigation, Equipment, and CPROX).
